Britney Spears first album in six years, including a collaboration with Elton John, "Hold Me Closer".

After a six-year break, Britney Spears returned to music on Friday with the release of her duet with Elton John, "Hold Me Closer."

It is Spears' first new release since her court triumph in November, which allowed her to be released from the 13-year conservatorship that had been in control of her professional and personal lives. The song is an EDM remake of John's 1971 hit "Tiny Dancer."

Spears acknowledged last year that she stopped playing music and performing because the conservatory "destroyed my aspirations." Glory, her most recent album, was released in 2016.

Spears stated that she is learning that "everyday is a clean slate to strive and be a better person and do what makes me happy" prior to the release of "Hold Me Closer."

She continued, saying, "I want to be brave as I was younger."

John claimed that his husband David Furnish gave him the idea to collaborate with Spears, and he added that he hopes their song will give her the confidence boost she needs following such a "difficult time."

In an interview with the Guardian newspaper, he said, "I'm so excited to be able to do it with her because if it's a big hit, and I think it may be, it will give her so much more confidence than she's got already and she will realise that people actually love her and care about her and want her to be happy.

It appears from a short scan of social media that supporters are thrilled with the joint release.

Spears "throws in a few joyful 'yeahs,' ad libs that feel like true yelps of ecstasy rather than the robotic moves of someone being shuttled from studio to waiting car," according to Michael Cragg of the Guardian, who gives the song a four-star rating.

According to Christian Allaire of Vogue "Like red wine and a basket of bread, there is something about Britney's voice and a dance music that just naturally complement one another. With her vocal tone, she does something that none of the other pop girlies can. She is the real pop princess because of this."

Will Hodgkinson, a reviewer for the UK's Times, wasn't as enthused. According to him, "Hold Me Closer" is a "bloodless remix" that "gives little space for Spears to shine while simultaneously ruining the charm of the original," adding that "the return of Britney Spears should be welcomed with open arms."

Adding that "Spears seems to imply that she will rediscover that through music. Even if this is a one-off, it seems like plenty, and who can blame her if she doesn't want to go back to pop full-time."

"Such a nice, lovely song—you guys work well together! You have no idea how much we have missed you, Brit, so hearing you sing again makes me so happy "One supporter tweeted.
